At approximately 9 a.m., Border Patrol agents observed a 28-year-old male and Mexican national identified as Ricardo Mejia-Hernandez, cross into the United States illegally from Mexico. (more) 08/27/2013 05:08 PM EDT Detroit - On August 22, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport seized $271,463 from a lawful permanent resident of the United States and his daughter, a United States citizen, after they both failed to report the currency to CBP officers. (more) 08/27/2013 05:08 PM EDT Laredo, Texas - On August 24, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35 encountered a maroon van from Mexico at the primary inspection lane. As the driver was being questioned by the Border Patrol agent as to his citizenship, a service canine alerted to the van, subsequently the agent referred the driver to secondary for further inspection. (more) 08/27/2013 05:08 PM EDT Detroit - On August 19, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport added five additional Global Entry kiosks for use by Global Entry participants arriving on international flights. This brings the total number of available kiosks to seven. (more) 08/27/2013 05:08 PM EDT Otay Mesa, Calif. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa port of entry on Sunday discovered 33 pounds of methamphetamine, almost 11 pounds of cocaine, almost six pounds of brown heroin, and two and half pounds of white heroin in the gas tank of a truck, valued at about $900,000.
