USA Firefighter Fatality Notification The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the following firefighter fatality:  Name: John Hammack  Rank: Firefighter  Age: 58 Gender: Male Status: Wildland Contract Date of Incident: 08/01/2013 Time of Incident: 0913hrs Date of Death: 08/01/2013     Fire Department: U.S. Forest Service - Deschutes National Forest Address: 63095 Deschutes Market Road, Bend, OR 97701 Fire Department Chief: Forest Supervisor John Allen Incident Description: Firefighter Hammack was killed by the top portion of a snag that fell and struck him and another firefighter who was injured in the incident. The firefighters were clearing away hazardous trees on a wildfire, Incident #398, in the Mt. Washington Wilderness Area of Oregon. Hammack was taken to the Redmond Memorial Chapel the following afternoon after a recovery effort by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office who is also conducting an investigation into the death.
