Pine Valley, Calif. - On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered two Mexican nationals hidden inside the trunk of a car following a pursuit on Interstate 8.At approximately 3 p.m., agents working at the I-8 checkpoint referred a 2000 Mercury sedan for a secondary inspection. (more)

Oroville, Wash. - Border Patrol Explorer Post #0023 held its 8th annual Border Patrol Explorer Academy from June 23-28. The six-day academy, held at Lost Lake in the Okanogan National Forest, is a condensed version of the Border Patrol Academy course. (more)

Baltimore - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) seized a carved African elephant ivory bracelet from a U.S. citizen on Monday.On July 5, CBP agriculture specialists noticed the passenger, who was returning from a trip to Liberia, wearing what appeared to be an elephant ivory bracelet and referred her for a secondary inspection. Nogales, Ariz. - Two women were arrested Tuesday at the Port of Nogales in connection with separate failed attempts to smuggle narcotics. Vanessa Elizabeth Palacios-Cortez, 34, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, was arrested after a CBP narcotic detection canine alerted to 14 packages of methamphetamine inside the front seats of her Buick sedan. Tecate, Calif. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Tecate, Calif. port of entry near San Diego arrested a man after they discovered more than 10 pounds of heroin stuffed inside two portable fire extinguishers. CBP officers encountered a 38-year-old male U. (more)

On July 4, Eagle Pass South Station agents were conducting immigration checkpoint operations on Farm to Market Road 2644 when a Ford F150 approached the checkpoint. After a short interview, agents observed two military-style duffel bags in the vehicle. (more)

Tucson, Ariz. - Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized nearly 5,200 pounds of marijuana and three vehicles yesterday. Agents from the Brian A. Terry Border Patrol Station, working in a remote area near Naco, Ariz., responded to detection technology and discovered three abandoned vehicles. (more)

San Diego - U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that Sidney K. Aki, has been selected as the new port director for the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa passenger ports of entry. Aki, a career federal law enforcement officer with 17 years' experience in managing programs related to border processing of international travelers, began his new role in San Diego on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
