SRR Employees Surpass 2 Million Hours Without Missing a Day of Work Due to an injury

(September 3, 2013) – Employees of Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), have worked over two million hours since their last injury that required someone to miss a day of work. Stuart MacVean, Interim SRR President and Project Manager, credits employees with watching out for their co-workers and attention to detail in achieving the safety milestone. "This milestone demonstrates that our employees pay attention to detail in hazardous conditions and watch out for co-workers while performing their work," MacVean said. The last injury that caused an employee to miss a day of work SRR was on March 23, 2013. The two million hours worked was recorded on August 16, 2013. Two million hours equates to one person working 40 hours a week for 1,000 years.  A lost workday or days-away case is defined as any work-related injury or illness that results in days away from work. The two million hours was accomplished by SRR operations and construction employees, including subcontractors. Working safely continues a long tradition by liquid waste employees operating and maintaining critical cleanup facilities at SRS. SRS is owned by DOE. The SRS Liquid Waste contract is managed by SRR, a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M HILL and Babcock & Wilcox.
