FURLOUGHS SLASHED TO SIX DAYS
ARLINGTON, Va. (8/6/13) - Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said today that furloughs affecting DOD civilians and military technicians will be cut from 11 days to six days.

188TH WING AIRMAN USES MILITARY, CIVILIAN SKILLS UNDER FIRE
FORT SMITH, Ark. (8/7/13) - On an early October morning, rockets began to strike Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. The strikes were coming in close that morning and within a few seconds buildings shook from impact.

KENTUCKY AIR GUARD'S MAINTENANCE UNIVERSITY PROVIDES UNIQUE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (8/5/13) - The Kentucky Air National Guard's 123rd Maintenance Group held its second-annual Maintenance University Course this summer, giving 130 Kentucky and Connecticut Air Guard members the opportunity to receive concentrated training on a broad range of aircraft maintenance tasks.

MISSOURI NATIONAL GUARD ASSISTS LOCAL AUTHORITIES WITH FLOOD RESPONSE EFFORTS

Jay Nixon today ordered the deployment of 50 military police officers of the Missouri National Guard to assist local civil authorities in protecting lives and property threatened by flash floods in areas of southern Missouri impacted by flooding from recent heavy rain.

131ST BOMB WING IS FIRST AIR GUARD BOMB WING CERTIFIED FOR NUCLEAR OPERATIONS
WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. (8/9/13) - The Air National Guard celebrated a historic milestone this week as the 131st Bomb Wing, the nation's only Guard unit to fly and maintain the B-2 Spirit, was certified to conduct the nuclear mission upon completion of its Initial Nuclear Surety Inspection.
