We have purchased a few different bars from different vendors, but we are having troubles locating a pinning system to keep them all in line. If anyone has a policy or program in place that might help point us in the right direction for display on a Class-A uniform coat and/or vendors for all the components needed to display them properly, it would be greatly appreciated. 2. I am in the process of beginning research for my final practicum in the Emergency Management master’s degree program at Oklahoma State University. I am undertaking the design of a Citizens Fire Academy that will lead to the formation of CERT teams within our city limits. Illinois State Fire Marshal Larry Matkaitis has asked a panel of state legislators to adopt a national fire standard that mandates residential sprinkler systems. Meanwhile, the Home Builders Association of Illinois says Matkaitis is skirting the legislative process by routing the proposal through the panel as an administrative rule instead of through the full Illinois General Assembly as a law. New Firefighter Leadership and Management Training Programs Available07/02/2013 The Firefighters Support Foundation (FSF) has released its two newest free video programs, Leadership Principles for Public Safety Agencies, and Management Principles for Public Safety Agencies. Both of these companion programs are at the practical level, and are both are useful for individuals wanting to move up the ladder, for officers in command or supervisory positions, and for top management. The leadership program debunks the myth that leadership is a separate activity from management, and it details the specific traits and actions that leaders must exhibit. The management program does likewise, and it explains the single most powerful management tool, one that has been in continuous use in all high-performance organizations for a half-century. On a recent trip, I had the opportunity to provide an organizational assessment for a department. Now there are many standards in our industry that must be met and dependent on the level of service delivery, those requirements may vary dramatically. The one thing that is pretty consistent though, at the most basic level is the foundation of organizational behavior. When you build a beautiful home on a poor foundation, regardless if it is the best house on the block, over time the weakest link in the construction will rear it's ugly head. No different in the fire service. You see the fire chief can buy as many shiny fire trucks as he wants, or all of the technical rescue equipment in the world, but without a culture that cares about quality training and equipment readiness, the service delivery will certainly falter.
