Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel hosts an honor cordon to welcome Yemen President Abd Rabuh Mansur Hadi to the Pentagon at 9:30 a.m. EDT. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Pentagon River Parking Pedestrian Bridge only. The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold hearings to examine the nominations of Navy Adm. Cecil E. D. Haney for reappointment to the grade of admiral and to be commander, U.S. Strategic Command, and Army Lt. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti to be general and commander, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/U.S. Forces Korea. Hearings will be held at 9:30 a.m. EDT in room SD-G50, Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Senate Committee on Appropriations subcommittee will hold a hearing on the Markup of the FY2014 Department of Defense Appropriations Bill at 10:30 a.m. EDT in room SD-192, Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asia Pacific Security Affairs Dr. Peter Lavoy and Deputy to the Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Jarrett Blanc will conduct a press briefing on the July 2013 Section 1230 Report, "Progress Toward Security and Stability in Afghanistan," at 2 p.m. EDT in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973).
