To support the 2009 National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures, the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) invites you to attend the BSSC Short Course, Earthquake Engineering Techniques: From the NEHRP Provisions to Building Seismic Design on Friday, August 16, 2013. The course will be held in Reston, Virginia at the Bechtel Conference Center of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a co-sponsor of the course.
"Earthquake Engineering Techniques" provides structural engineers, design professionals, building officials, and academics and students with the opportunity to stay up to date on the latest building practices in designing for earthquakes. Attendees can improve their seismic design skills and learn about the current FEMA NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions and ASCE 7. The 7-hour course covers a range of topics from the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Design Examples (FEMA P-751) and 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Training and Instructional Materials (FEMA P-752). Topics include: Introduction to the NEHRP Provisions and ASCE 7; Introduction to Earthquake Engineering; Earthquake Ground Motions; Structural Analysis; Structural Steel; Reinforced Concrete; Composite Structures; Nonstructural Components; and Nonbuilding Structures. Instructors include Dr. Finley A. Charney, Dr. Roberto Leon, Dr. Sanj Malushte, and J.G. 'Greg' Soules. On completion of the course, attendees will receive a certificate for 7.0 Professional Development Units (PDUs).
