WASHINGTON, July 30, 2013 - Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel thanked Yemeni President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi during a meeting at the Pentagon today for his country's counterterrorism cooperation with the United States, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said.

"Secretary Hagel praised Yemen for its role as a key partner of the United States and expressed his thanks for the continued cooperation on mutual security assistance issues," Little said in a statement summarizing the meeting. "In particular, he thanked President Hadi for Yemen's ongoing role in countering terrorism in the region and noted the positive reorganization of Yemen's military forces."

The two leaders also discussed the continued progress of Yemen's political transition and the positive role the United States continues to play in the field of economic development, the press secretary said.

"Secretary Hagel and President Hadi reiterated their steadfast commitment to standing together in the region given the geographic and strategic importance of Yemen," Little said.

Hagel also affirmed that the Defense Department will continue to seek ways to enhance bilateral defense cooperation, he added.
