FY 2013 STAFFING FOR ADEQUATE FIRE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE (SAFER) GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION PERIOD NOW OPEN

Online applications are now being accepted for FY 2013 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants. The deadline for all SAFER grant applications will be Friday, August 30, 2013, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).
HOW TO APPLY
For information on how to apply, visit the SAFER Grants Web Page on the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Website (www.fema.gov/firegrants).
The first step is to read the FY 2013 SAFER Funding Opportunity Announcement. This document describes how to apply for a grant, activities that will be funded, types of organizations that are eligible to receive awards, the evaluation criteria for making awards, and the federal requirements for grantees.
Activities Eligible for SAFER Grants:

  • Hiring of Firefighters (Career, Combination, and Volunteer Fire Departments)
  • Recruitment and Retention of Volunteer Firefighters (Combination and Volunteer Fire Departments and national, state, local, or tribal organizations that represent the interests of volunteer firefighters)

CLOSEOUT MODULES FOR FY 2009 AND FY 2010 GRANT PERIODS AVAILABLE NOW

The closeout modules for FY 2009 and 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and Fire Prevention and Safety (FPS) programs have been deployed and are now available to grantees to complete and submit their required closeout reports.   As a reminder, grantees are provided 90 days from the availability of the closeout module to complete and submit their closeout reports before they are considered delinquent. Failure to complete and submit the required closeout report within that time period will result in the grantee being considered delinquent and may result in either the denial or “freezing” of a payment or amendment request, and may prevent future awards until such time as they have been completed.

The FY 2011 AFG and FPS closeout module is currently not available, but are expected to be available in the spring of 2014.

If you require assistance with your closeout, please do not hesitate to contact the AFG Help Desk at:  1-866-274-0960 or via email at firegrants@dhs.gov.
