With the Fourth of July fast approaching, now is a good time to brush up on the basics of grilling fire safety. A must-read for those in the emergency management field. FEMA's lead in New York after Hurricane Sandy, Mike Byrne, provided his perspective to Emergency Management Magazine. Mike has lots of experience leading the response to large-scale disasters, so he talked about what makes them different. Training opportunity for those involved in emergency response: The Emergency Management Institute has seats available in the E915: Homeland Security Integrated Emergency Management Course July 29 - August 1 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
This exercise-based training course is designed for anyone with a role in emergency response. The course will describe the effects and consequences of terrorism incidents on local jurisdictions and allow students to carry out and rehearse their real-life roles in various emergency management disciplines in an Emergency Operations Center during a realistic emergency situation. Oh and in case you were wondering, this course is fully-funded by DHS for local, state and tribal responders!
